Facilitating Effective Communication in Interdisciplinary Design Teams

Project status: Complete

Thrust area: New Design Paradigms and Processes

Research team: Lisa McNair

Designers and design groups have access to methods that can improve communication of designs. The network of producers has also seen direct benefits in improved interdisciplinary teaming in which people from different areas can effectively manage conflict and enable more efficient distributed design. End users of products designed by interdisciplinary teams benefit from products that are more accurately targeted to their needs, and engineers who are skilled in interdisciplinary collaboration find themselves authors of competitive and innovative designs. High-technology providers can use our findings to aid in HCI and to explore new ways of modeling design processes.
