This research addresses the vertical integration of CAD systems by making the process joint design within the product development more consistent and automated than current general practices. Specifically, benefits of this work include: the development of CAD models which are more complete with joint information, sharable physics-based joining information, CAD models that are better prepared for virtual prototyping and simulation, higher quality mechanical joints through increased variant testing, and shorter development times due to increased automation in product development.
