The overall aim of this investigation is to acquire extensive data on how an existing trade responds to and shapes new technologies aimed at automating the “dirty, difficult and dangerous” aspects of their trade. Working collaboratively with faculty and students from the School of Architecture, the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and the Department of Computer Science our team will study “in-situ human-machine interaction” in order to clarify specific technical challenges and allow us to overcome many of the socioergonomic barriers that prevent next-generation robotic systems from being widely adopted.
